Manuel P. "Jerry" Atencio

Manuel P. “Jerry” Atencio, born June 17, 1955, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Jerry was a strong, steady, and hardworking man whose presence brought both comfort and laughter to those who knew him. He was the kind of man you could count on, dependable, resilient, and fiercely devoted to the people he loved. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Olivama Atencio, Nabor and Lou Jaramillo; his brothers Orlando, Barro, and Alfred; and his beloved sister Darlene “Landa.” The bond he shared with his family was deep, and he carried their memory with him always. Jerry is survived by his children, Moises Atencio, Daniel Atencio, and Marisa Atencio, who were the pride of his life. He is also survived by his grandchildren Alyssa, James, Justin, Leticia, Diego, Jaiden, and Jaylah Atencio. Nothing meant more to him than being “Dad” and his love was steady and unwavering, expressed not only in words but in the countless ways he showed up, protected, supported, and encouraged. He is also survived by his sisters Velma, Tina, and Geraldine (Benny), along with many extended family members and lifelong friends who will carry his memory forward. Jerry dedicated many years of service as Superintendent of the Center Municipal Utility Department. He took immense pride in his work and in serving his community. Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, he believed in doing things the right way with integrity, grit, and consistency. He was respected not only for the job he did, but for the man he was while doing it. Beyond his career, Jerry was a true free spirit. He loved riding his Harley, finding peace and freedom on the open road. In his younger years, he played softball and carried that competitive, determined spirit with him throughout his life. He had a creative soul, he loved drawing, painting, and making jewelry, always finding ways to express himself through art. Music was another great love of his life. He enjoyed playing the piano and guitar, and some of his most treasured moments were spent playing alongside his son Daniel. Music brought him joy, connection, and a way to share something meaningful with the people he loved most. Jerry had a larger than life personality. He was funny, quick-witted, and could make anyone laugh. He had a way of filling a room not with noise, but with presence. He was strong but tender-hearted, tough but deeply loving. He was wild in spirit, loyal in heart, and unforgettable in every way. His legacy is one of hard work, creativity, laughter, strength, and unwavering love for family. Though he may be gone from our sight, the stories, the music, the laughter, and the lessons he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
