Diego A. Ortega

Sanford-Sanford Resident Diego A. Ortega was called home to be with the Lord on the 14th of October 2022 surround by his loving family. Diego was welcomed in to the world on March 1, 1930 to the late Adolfo Ortega and Margarita Gonzales. Diego was a loving Husband, Father, grandfather and friend to many. At a young age he joined the army and served his country with pride. Diego was united in Marriage to Estella Ortega, Elena Margarita Ortega, and Katherine Ortega. Throughout his marriages Diego welcomed 15 children whom he loved and adored with all his heart. Diego would do anything to provided for his family. He worked very hard through out his life as a carpenter and also as a farmer. Diego loved Farming and ranching and the time he got to spend with all his animals especially horses. Diego knew no stranger, as he loved meeting new people and later finding out they were his family. He also enjoyed boxing and was very well known for his left hook. Diego’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family and friends, but most of all was the time he had with his grandchildren. Diego will be greatly missed by his loving family and all that had the chance to meet him. Diego is survived by his loving children; five daughters- Joanne Ortega of New Mexico, Angela Ortega of Utah, Elma (Dan) Rodriguez of Utah, Anna (Pat) Archuleta of New Mexico, Priscilla (Henry) Schimpf of La Jara, Co. Five sons; Zorro (Rose) Ortega of Utah, Diego (Sherri) Ortega of Arizona, Tony Ruiz of New Mexico, Carlos Ruiz of New Mexico, Robert (Julianna) Ruiz of New Mexico; Forty-three grandchildren and numerus great, great-great, great-great- greatgrandchildren as well as many extended family and friends. Diego was preceded in death by his parents, three wives, twelve siblings, four sons; David, Martin, Raymond, and Beltran and one daughter Brenda Martinez. There will be a Viewing on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 AM with a Celebration of Life to follow at 11:00 AM at Romero Valley Funeral home in Alamosa, CO.
