Ruth Christina Bott

August 23, 1921 - February 26, 2021

Long-time Alamosa resident Ruth Christina Bott passed away February 26th, 2021 at the age of 99. Ruth was born August 23rd, 1921 in Fort Morgan to Arthur and Verdi Sorg. Her parents moved to Colorado from Bellville, Ill. and home-steaded on a ranch near Aguilar. Mom lived in very rough conditions until the second grade when her father moved the family to Denver and built their home. She graduated from St. Francis De Sall in 1939. Grandma loved to tell the story of how she met the love of her life, Andrew. They initially met at a dance and made a date to go roller skating. But he stood her up, a year later they ran into each other at another roller staking rink and were married six months later. The rest is history. In their later years, Ruth and Andy loved to travel, camp with the fam- ily, and of course, play golf every day. Known as the “running grandma of Alamosa”, Ruth competed and placed in several Boulder Boul- ders, ran a plane at the young age of 80. Still, as Ruth would say, those pale in comparison to her greatest achievement, her family. Barbara Ann Gallegos, Andrew Bott, Susan Knight, Katherine Lewis, Theresa Webb and Michael Bott. Sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren completed the family. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Andy, parents Arthur and Verdi, sister Verdi, broth- er Art, son-in-law Tony Gallegos, son-in-law Jim Webb and grand-daughter Cherianne Matzenbaucher. She is survived by her sister Barbara, her children and her remaining grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Services for Ruth will be Friday, March 5th, 2021. Starting at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa. Flowers may be sent to Romero Funeral Home. To leave online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
