Mary Ann O'caña

August 26, 1930 - January 31, 2022

Sanford resident Mary Ann O'Caña, gained her Angel wings on January 31, 2022. She passed away at the Conejos County Hospital with her loving family by her side. Mary made her grand entrance into the world on August 26, 1930 in Sanford, Colorado, the beloved daughter of Gerardo Lucero and Dorothy (Martinez) Lucero. She was united in marriage to the love of her life Melisendro Cosmes O'Caña on September 26, 1953 in Antonito, Colorado. The two shared a love that was truly right out of a fairytale. Mary was a devoted and exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed going to bingo, gambling and fishing. She was an avid supporter of all valley sports. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she was able to spend with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed. She will live on through her children Cosmes Jr. (Bennette) O'Caña of Sanford, CO; Geraldine Gurule, Carol (Leonard) Lucero, Rebecca (Michael) Duran all of Sanford, CO; Carla Archuleta of Alamosa, CO; 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, sister Olive Brown of Sanford, CO and one brother-in-law Chris Valdez. She is also survived by many other extended family members. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Gerardo and Dorothy Lucero, husband Cosmes O'Caña, infant daughter Juanita O'Caña, siblings Kate Ruybal, Angie Pacheco, Mary Valdez, Max, Gilbert, Ruben, Orlando Lucero, son-in-laws Leonard Archuleta, Arthur Gurule, grandson Mike Duran Jr., and one great-grandson Kenneth Jones. Viewing and visitation will be held from 9-10 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Church. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in La Jara. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 also at Our lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Burial to follow at the Sanford Cemetery.
