Alamosa resident Josie Bernal Arellano, 84, gained her angel wings on March 15, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family under Hospice Care. Josie was welcomed into the world on April 16, 1937 in Chama, Colorado, the daughter of Samuel Bernal and Aubrelia Garcia Bernal. Josie was united in marriage to Belarmino Arellano on March 15, 1962, they shared 60 years of a happy and loving union. Josie held on and fought her fight until the day of their anniversary, so she could spend one more with her beloved husband. She was well known and liked in the Costilla County Community. She donated a lot of her time to Romero Funeral Home for over 20 years, aiding them in funeral services where she made even more friends throughout the San Luis Valley. She was devoted to her faith, she loved attending church and reading her Bible. She also played the piano. On her free time, Josie liked sewing, gardening and cooking meals for her family. She cherished the time she was able to spend with friends and family. She is already dearly missed. She will live on through her husband of 60 years Belarmino "Mino" Arellano of Alamosa, CO; daughter Brenda (Arthur) Danforth of Alamosa, CO; son Randy Arellano of Los Lunas, NM; grandchildren James Mondragon Jr., of San Luis, CO; Tyler (Anahi) Atkins of Alamosa, CO; Nicole (Ismael) Sandoval of Bayfield, CO; great-grandchildren Briah Atkins, Liam Atkins, James Sandoval and Luke Sandoval; sister Betty (Tony) Gallegos of Alamosa, CO; Brother Ernesto (Maria) Bernal of Colorado Springs, CO. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends. Josie was preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Aubrelia Bernal, sisters Stella Sanchez, Martha Valdez, Jenny Sanchez, Dolores Vialpando and one Brother Alfonso Bernal. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Bible Chapel in Alamosa. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery in Chama, Colorado.
