Jimmy D. Duran

February 23, 1945 - February 12, 2022

Antonito resident Jimmy Duran, 76, passed away February 12, 2022, at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Jimmy was born on February 23, 1945, in Los Piños, New Mexico, the son of Anastacio Duran and Rosita Casias Duran. He tirelessly worked the family ranch with his loving brother for nearly all his life. The ranch work was endless and overlapped with other fulfilling jobs that he was immensely proud. For many years Jimmy worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Silbrico Perlite and Colorado Lava mines. Jimmy excelled in many different professions, some which included, track maintenance for the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad as well as a jeweler for Silver Fox Jewelry. Jimmy was united in marriage to Evila Gallegos on November 29, 1966, and they shared a happy and loving union for 58 years. During his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, caring for his many pets, dancing, and listening to music. He absolutely adored the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Jimmy had a wonderful sense of humor and was always cracking jokes, usually at the expense of his family and friends. He was so personable and made friends wherever he was but didn’t hesitate to make a wisecrack at the expense of a complete stranger whenever the opportunity arose. Jimmy’s loving smile will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His kind and loving heart will live on through his family. Survivors include his loving wife Evila Duran of Antonito, CO; daughters Deanna Duran (Ric) of Fountain, CO; Lisha Duran of Alamosa, CO; Jamie (Nicolas) Sandoval of San Antonio, CO; sons Jimmy (Rhonda) Duran of Mogote, CO; Donald (Joyce) Duran of San Antonio, CO; Scott (Carmen) Duran of Alamosa, CO; 19 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister Betty Lou Duran of Colorado Springs, CO; brother Lipio Duran of Los Piños, NM. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Anastacio and Rosita Duran, sister Gloria Lujan, brothers Olivio Jose Duran, Vianes Casias, and Eduardo Duran. Viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, from 1-4 at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022, at 10:00 AM, also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Ortiz Cemetery.
