San Antonio resident Elsie Josephine Romero, went to be with the Lord on September 6, 2018. Elsie was welcomed into the world on October 26, 1939 in San Antonio, Colorado, the daughter of Edumenio Martinez and Andronica Duran Martinez. Elsie was united in marriage to Joseph Romero on July 21, 1956, the two shared a long and happy union until her passing. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. Elsie was a long time resident of Leadville, Colorado from 1967 to 2001. During those years she worked at the Lodge at Vail for 22 years. She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of America in Leadville and continued her service in Alamosa, Colorado. Elsie was also president of the Sacred Heart Society, member of the Madres Christiana, Conejos Choir, Guadalupe Parish Credit Union supervisory committee, Senior Citizens Center and was very involved with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Elsie also enjoyed attending bingo, playing the lotto, going to the casino, traveling to Alaska, Spain, Washington D.C., Hawaii, Mexico, Philadelphia and Memphis, TN. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and being involved in church activities. She is already dearly missed by her family. Survivors include her loving husband Joseph B. Romero of San Antonio, CO; daughter Rhilda Romero of San Antonio, CO; sons Rocky (Stephanie) Romero, Jack (Denise) Romero, Darryl (Melissa) Romero all of El Paso, TX; grandchildren Roman Romero, Danica Romero, Raquel Romero, Sarah Romero, Ziven Romero, Jake Romero, Adam Romero, Nathan Romero, Kimberly Romero, Crystal Romero, Davina Romero, Savannah Romero, Destiny Rico, and great-granddaughter Megan; sisters Ruth Martinez of Commerce City, CO; Mary Ellen (Gilbert) Rendon of Albuquerque, NM; Ida McElhaney of South Haven, Mississippi. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Edumenio Martinez and Andronica Duran; daughters Sandra Romero, Janae Romero; Son Robbie Romero; sisters Ruby Romero, Edna Chavez, Eufelia Gallegos, Amelina Lopez, Estrella Sanchez and brothers Edward Martinez, Donel Martinez, Gilbert Martinez and Alex Martinez. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Interment will follow at the Los Cerritos Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. To leave online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com.
