Thelma Ruth Chacon

Lifelong resident of the San Luis Valley, Thelma Ruth Chacon, age 90, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2022. She was born on June 30, 1931, in Garcia, Colorado to Antonio Jose Lucero and Tavita (Garcia) Lucero. On February 21, 1953, she married the love of her life Preston G. Chacon in Taos, New Mexico. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage before Preston passed in 2007. She was a homemaker and all who knew her well could testify as what a wonderful cook she was. She loved arranging flowers, planting flowers, listening to her Mexican music and concerts in the park. She loved visits from family and friends who just happened to come by right before dinnertime. By far her greatest joy was seeing her children and especially her grandchildren. “Nana” made sure that they all left with full stomachs and extra containers of food. She was a longtime member of the Alamosa Presbyterian Church and was a deacon and volunteered with many functions when possible. The last few years were very difficult for her to attend services. However she could be heard peacefully at home in conversation with her heavenly father in prayer or telling Preston how things were going down here and how much she missed him. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Preston, her son Rickey, four infant brothers, her sister Bernice Hall and sister Erla Eddy, as well as her beloved brothers and sisters in law. She is survived by her children Sharon Chacon, Elissa (Gary) Frink, Steve Chacon, Glenn (Noreen) Chacon all of Alamosa, Alvin (Shawnee) Chacon of Colorado Springs, 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nephews and nieces and extended family. A viewing will be held at Romero Funeral Home at 1407 State Ave. from 2-4 P.M. in Alamosa. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday July 2, 2022 at the Presbyterian Church at 330 San Juan Ave., Alamosa. Interment will follow immediately after services at Alamosa Cemetery.
