Margie (Atencio) Sanchez Age: 94 Date of Birth: August 20, 1926 .... Passed away November 28, 2020 Born and raised in La Garita, Colorado In her late teens, while working in the potato fields in the Valley, she met Eloy Sanchez of Center. They wed on Sept 6, 1945. A few years after getting married, Margie and Eloy moved to Leadville, CO where they resided for the next 10 years followed by 1 year in Grand Junction, CO. They returned to Center in 1963 where they would remain for the rest of their lives. Margie could ride a horse bareback with the best of them. She made it look so easy. Oh how she loved hanging out with her dad out in the open fields. She was known for her legendary cooking. Chili beans, "Bunelos" (sopapillas), tortillas, "voyetos" (biscochitos), green chili gravy, eggs over easy. Flavors and textures were out of this world, all without using any measurement aids. As a member of St. Francis Jerome Parish in Center she served as a trusted Treasurer of her church club, Coro de San Francisco for many years. Pastime highlights in her life included word search puzzles, she was so quick at finding those words! Watching Polkas on the RFD channel on Saturday evenings was a must. She loved her Broncos, with pride, would wear her jersey on game day. Margie was always up for a challenge. She was a strong woman indeed. Her infectious smile and laughter will forever be in her family's heart. She was the Matriarch of the Family and will be greatly missed beyond words. She is survived by her four children, Velma Fiore, Simi Valley, CA, Arnold Sanchez, Garden Grove, CA, John (Shirley) Sanchez, Pueblo, CO, Tom (Becky) Sanchez, Wichita, KS, Brother Toby Atencio, Colorado Springs, CO, 17 Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren, 3 Great-Great Grandchildren, 16 Godchildren plus numerous extended Family and Friends. Margie was preceded in death by her husband Eloy, of 60 years. He passed away November 24, 2005. Also preceded by her parents Patricio and Emelia (Marquez) Atencio, 3 brothers, Edwardo Atencio, Alfonso Atencio, Charles Atencio and 2 sisters, Delia (Aguilar) and Eufelia (Vigil).
