Lawrence Alex Marquez

Alex was a great husband, father, grandpa, and great grandpa. His biggest achievement was marrying the love of his life, Vee, on August 21, 1960. The two lovebirds were married just days shy of 63 years. Always smiling, lifting his eyebrows up and down, blowing kisses to her no matter how he was feeling, even in his last moments he was wanting a kiss from his wife; she was the sun, moon and everything in between to him. He was a man of many hats, spanning a wide range of industries. He was a soldier, educator, coach (football, basketball, and baseball), volunteer fireman, politician, director, manager, veteran’s officer, carpenter, mechanic, contractor, business owner, and probably other titles we don’t know about. During his time in the Air Force, he was a fuel specialist and received the Air Force Good Conduct Medal and Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon. He was willing to help anyone in need. He was a proud man who was well respected by everyone whose lives he touched and paths he crossed. He loved and was loved by his entire family, from his grandkids to his nephews and nieces, and even family that was not blood related (friends). When you greeted him, you were greeted by a kiss, by the famous Marquez lips. He lit up the room wherever he went. A man larger than life. Alex is survived by his wife Veroncia Marquez, his children Shelly Marquez & Scott Quintana, Lawrence Jr. & Ivette Marquez, and Tim & Melisa Marquez; his grandchildren BreAnn & Matthew Perez, Vanessa Marquez, Cynthia & Ryan Marquez-Black, Lawrence Marquez III, Jasmine Marquez, and Hali Marquez; his Great-Grandchildren Trinity, Easton, Reece, Logan, Adrian, Jerimiah, Blake, and Dylan; and his siblings Delma & Jessie Martinez, and Leroy & Lorraine Marquez. He is proceeded in death by his child Daniel Marquez; his parents Clorinda Rodriguez & Silvio Marquez, Gilbert & Theresa Maes; his grandparent Ofelia Martinez; his siblings Pricilla Marquez, Silvia Atencio, and Ronald Marquez; and his great-grandchild Dillan Black. Alex’s Services will be the Viewing on August 11, at 6:00pm at Romero’s Funeral Home in Alamosa and Rosary following the viewing at 6:30, Church Services August 12, at 1:00pm at Holy Family Catholic Mission in Ft. Garland, and a Celebration of Life August 12 following the church services at Ft. Garland Museum and Cultural Center. The Marquez family is planning on having a Denver Celebration of Life for those unable to make it to Ft. Garland and will be announced at a later date.
