Larry Dee Atkins Jr., 40, of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2025. Larry was born on July 30, 1985, in Alamosa, Colorado. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado, where he spent his childhood and formative years. He attended elementary school in San Luis before continuing his education at Pueblo East High School. Larry spent the majority of his adult life in Chama, Colorado — a place he loved and called home. He dedicated his career to working in the oil field, doing what he was most passionate about. As a supervisor with Pure Frac LLC in Midland, Texas, Larry earned the deep respect of his coworkers and peers. Known for his strong leadership, loyalty, and tireless work ethic, he was a valued member of his team and a natural leader others looked up to. Above all, Larry was a devoted husband and a proud father. He cherished his wife, Stephanie Atkins, and took great pride in her accomplishments. He adored their children and was a loving, involved father who made faith and family his top priorities. Larry was a blessing to his parents and a protective, supportive big brother. His presence was larger than life, matched only by his generous heart. He put others first, and to his many friends, he was more than a friend—he was family. His kindness, strength, and love left an unforgettable mark on everyone he met. He loved the outdoors and found joy in life’s simple pleasures—hunting, watching football (especially cheering on his Denver Broncos), catching UFC fights, and spending time at the ranch with family and friends. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Stephanie, and their children: Jaleysia, Alejandro, Michael, and Xylina Faith; his parents, Larry Atkins Sr. (Mary), and Denise Moncivaiz (Paul); his siblings, Bethany Streyle (Karl), Tyler Atkins (Anahi), and Darion Moncivaiz (Breanna); and grandmothers Lillian Arellano and Mary Ramoz. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Piedad Atkins, grandfather Jose Arellano, and grandmother Mary Moncivaiz-Lucero. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Romero’s Funeral Home, Alamosa, Colorado. A viewing will be held on Friday, October 24th, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a rosary vigil from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at Centennial High School Auxiliary Gymnasium in San Luis, Colorado, on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Chama Cemetery in Chama, Colorado.
