Katy Joan Gallegos March 22, 1953 - August 14, 2026 Katy Joan Gallegos, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at her home on August 14, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life beautifully lived. Her passing leaves a profound emptiness in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, but her memory will forever remain a source of comfort, love, and joy to her family and friends. Katy was born on March 22, 1953, in Chama, Colorado, to Alejandrino Martinez and Elizaida Sena. From her earliest days, Katy was blessed with a strong family foundation and a love for the people around her. She carried those values throughout her entire life, always placing importance on family, friendship, laughter, and making memories with the people she loved. On April 29, 1972, Katy married the love of her life, Larry William Gallegos, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Their marriage was the beginning of a beautiful journey together that lasted more than five decades. Through the years, Katy and Larry shared countless memories, adventures, challenges, celebrations, and moments of happiness. Their love and commitment to one another became a lasting example of devotion and partnership. Larry was not only her husband, but her lifelong companion, best friend, and the person with whom she shared so many of life’s most precious moments. Throughout most of her working life, Katy was employed in operations services, where she dedicated herself to her work and the responsibilities that came with it. She was a hardworking woman who took pride in providing for and caring for the people she loved. Yet, while her work was an important part of her life, those closest to Katy knew that her greatest treasures were always found in the time she spent with her family and friends. Katy had a zest for life and a love for making the most of every moment. She enjoyed gambling, fishing, camping, cooking, traveling, and sightseeing. She appreciated the simple joys of being outdoors, discovering new places, sharing good food, and enjoying the company of the people she cared about. Whether she was enjoying a peaceful day fishing, sitting around a campfire, traveling somewhere new, preparing a favorite meal, or simply spending time with family and friends, Katy had a way of turning ordinary moments into cherished memories. Her love for her family was at the center of her world. Katy treasured every opportunity to gather with those she loved. She was someone who could make a home feel warm and welcoming, and her presence brought a special comfort to those around her. Her laughter, her stories, her generosity, and the memories she created with those closest to her will continue to live on through the generations. Katy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Larry William Gallegos of Denver, Colorado; her daughter, Eva Gallegos of Denver, Colorado; and her son, Shawn Gallegos of Denver, Colorado. She is also survived by her beloved sisters, Eppie (Juan) Raca of Denver, Colorado; Sophia (Johnny) Walker of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Esther (Ray) Atencio of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Rosalie (Jack) Patterson of Houston, Texas; and Bernice (Tommy) Martinez of Chama, Colorado; and her brothers, Tomas (Viola) Martinez of Tucson, Arizona, and Wayne (Susie) Martinez of Farmington, New Mexico. Katy’s love and legacy will continue through her grandchildren, Alejandra Pery of Denver, Colorado; Izaiah Gallegos of Denver, Colorado; and Gabriel Gallegos of Denver, Colorado, as well as her five great-grandchildren, who brought another special generation of love and happiness into her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Alejandrino Martinez and Elizaida Sena, and her brothers, Jessie Martinez, Vincent Martinez, Sebby Martinez, and Amadeo “Wedo” Martinez. Though they have gone before her, the love they shared and the memories they created together remain forever woven into the story of Katy’s life. Those who knew Katy will remember her not simply for the years she lived, but for the love she gave, the memories she created, and the lives she touched. She had a way of making the people around her feel like family, and her presence brought warmth and familiarity wherever she went. Her life was filled with the people, places, and experiences that meant the most to her. Katy’s journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the love she gave her family will never disappear. It will continue in the stories told around family tables, in the recipes and meals shared together, in the adventures remembered with laughter, in the quiet moments spent thinking of her, and in the hearts of every person fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a legacy built on love, family, devotion, hard work, and treasured memories. Her family will carry her with them wherever life takes them, knowing that a part of Katy will always remain in the people she loved and the lives she helped shape. Though she will be deeply missed, Katy Joan Gallegos will never be forgotten. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and friends. May they find comfort in knowing that the love they shared with Katy was a gift that will last forever. The Rosary will be held on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Chama, Colorado, with the Funeral Mass following at 2:00 p.m. Burial services will take place immediately following the Mass at Chama Cemetery.
