Katherine Helen Manzanares October 25, 1949 - July 15, 2026 Katherine Helen Manzanares, a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Dear friend, passed away unexpectedly at her home in San Luis, Colorado on July 15, 2026, at the age of 76. While her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her family finds comfort in the countless memories she created and the love she shared throughout her life. Katherine was born on October 25, 1949, in San Pablo, Colorado to Antonio Manzanares and Esperanza Manzanares (Olivas) lovingly guided by her Stepfather Selustanio “Sebby” Martinez, who also played an important role in her life. A hardworking and dependable woman, Katherine spent much of her life working as a driver for South Central Colorado Seniors and as a care provider with the Costilla County Nursing Service. She approached every responsibility with determination, strength, and an unwavering work ethic. Her dedication to her careers was only surpassed by the devotion she had for her family, who were always the center of her world especially her daughter Florinda and Grandchildren. Katherine was widowed by her long time partner Joseph Arthur DeHerrera, whom passed away September 12, 2012. Together they had one daughter. Though she carried the loss of her partner she continued to fill her home with warmth, laughter, and unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. She found happiness in life's simple pleasures. Katherine loved spending quiet hours embroidering beautiful pieces with care and patience. She could often be found with a fresh cup of coffee in the morning or a Pepsi in hand later in the day. She enjoyed relaxing while watching classic cowboy movies and was a proud and faithful Denver Broncos fan, always cheering on her favorite team. She also enjoyed sitting outside with a cigarette, taking in the fresh Colorado air and visiting with family and friends. Above all else, Katherine treasured every moment spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Family gatherings, holidays, and everyday visits brought her the greatest joy, and the love she gave so freely will remain a lasting gift to all who knew her. Katherine’s greatest legacy is the family she loved with all her heart. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Florinda (Aaron Moses Hernandez Jr.) Hernandez; her loving sisters, Dinah (Ray) Jacquez and Toni (John Serna) Archuleta; her brother, Chuck (Janet) Manzanares; and her cherished grandchildren, Emiliano Bailon, Zebadiah Hernandez, Alyssa Medina, Joziah Hernandez, Gabriel Hernandez, and Eliaz Hernandez. She was also blessed to be a great-grandmother to Ace Medina, Allie May Medina, and Yasiah Hernandez, each of whom brought tremendous pride and happiness into her life. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Antonio Manzanares and Esperanza "Hope" Olivas; her stepfather, Selustanio “Sebby”Martinez; her beloved husband, Joseph Arthur DeHerrera; her precious granddaughter, Harmony Faith Hernandez; and her sister, Judy (Steve) Cullen. Katherine will be remembered for her strength, resilience, generous heart, and unwavering love for her Family. She had a spirited personality, a warm smile, and a comforting presence that made everyone feel welcome. She will forever be missed and her presence cherished.
