Eugene J. Salazar

Española NM- Our Beloved Father grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend Eugene J. Salazar 86 formerly of Los Sauces, Colorado gained his angel wings on March 19, 2023 in Española, New Mexico, surrounded by his loving family. Eugene was welcomed into this world on March 9, 1937 to the late Filiberto and Delfina Salazar. After high school he met the love of his life Lucille Valdez Salazar and they were United in marriage. The two welcomed two sons and five daughters and also helped raise three of his grandchildren that he cherished with his whole heart. Eugene loved raising and training race horses, he would follow them all over New Mexico to watch them run. He also loved farming and ranching, fishing, family gatherings, and barbecues. Eugene had a great sense of humor and loved to make people laugh. He also enjoyed his time riding around with his cousins and friends and also the time he spent in law enforcement and serving his community. But the greatest pastime of all was the time he spent with his grandchildren, family and friends. Eugene will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He will live on through his children Gene (Gabby) Salazar of Denver, CO, Debbie (Bobby) Abeyta of La Jara, CO, Maxine (Terry) Gess of Pennsylvania, Hope Salazar of Española, NM. Nine grandchildren three he helped raise; Nakoa(Shania) Martinez of El Rito, NM, Tiffany Archuleta (Andres Sanchez)of El Rito, NM, and Esperanza Salazar of El Rito, NM and twelve great grandchildren. Three sisters; Angie Garcean, Viola Solano, and Virginia Martinez all of Denver, CO, one brother; Bobby Salazar of Los Sauces, CO and special nephew Kenny Salazar of Los Sauces, CO. Eugene is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Salazar, his parents, Filiberto, and Delfina Salazar, one son, Charlie Salazar two daughters Norma and mayo Salazar one great grandson Juan Diego Martinez, two sisters Celia Montoya and Rose Gonzalez and five brothers; John, Moises, Raymond, Mike and Pat Salazar, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. There will be a vigil with the recitation of the rosary on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Los Sauces, Colorado at 7:00 PM the Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 also at Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Los Sauces, CO at 10:00 AM.
