Dolores V. Chavez

Dolores Chavez, age 90 passed away on Wednesday, March 26th of 2025. Dolores was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a cherished member of her community. When she first married the love of her life, Lucas, they moved to Albuquerque where she worked at Sandia Labs. After a few years the family moved into the home her husband built in La Jara, where they raised five children. Dolores was a devoted mother, always putting her family first. She later became the office manager for a doctor’s office in La Jara, a position she held with dedication for many years. Upon retiring, she helped manage the family business in La Jara, as well as looking after her grandchildren, continuing to contribute with passion and care. A member of the Society of Our Lady, Dolores also served as a board member for the Alamosa Museum, where she enjoyed supporting and preserving local history. She had a deep love for reading, and her family was a central part of her life. Dolores cherished her time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild, and loved having visitors, always wanting to feed all who came, making everyone feel welcome in her home. Dolores was preceded in death by Lucas, her loving husband, her daughter Anna, her son Greg, as well as her parents Manuel and Marcelina Marquez. She is survived by Ed (Marie) Chavez, Dominic (Michelle) Chavez, Patricia (Mike) Atencio, daughter-in-law Annette Chavez, grandchildren; Victora (Rori), Elisa, Rosie, Julia (Joe), Maggie (Drew), Diego, Michael, David, Andrea (Jeremy), Anna (Jesus), Daniel (Destiny), great grandchildren: Lucas, Levi, Autumn, Aubrey, Samuel, Austin, Brookly, Annastasia, Abriella, Lucas Chavez, and great-great grandson Nathaniel. A rosary for Dolores will be held Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 7:00 PM at St Joseph’s parish in Capulin. The mass for Dolores will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s parish in Capulin Dolores will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
