Catalina Martinez

Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister Maria Catalina (Katie) Torres Martinez was called home on December 25, 2023 at the San Luis Care Center surrounded by her loving family. She was welcomed into this world on February 13, 1930 by Jose N. Torres and Manuelita Muniz Torres of Capulin, Colorado. She was united in marriage to Jose Feliberto (Phil) Martinez on November 14, 1949 to which union were born Guillermo Eleofredo (Freddy) (Ursulita)Martinez of Alamosa, Loretta Margarita (Margie) (Segundo) Diaz of Alamosa and Maria Rita (Mark) Munoz of Denver. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage before his passing in February, 2010. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband in their farming business. She was a member of the St. Joseph Church in Monte Vista. She and Phil enjoyed many years traveling and meeting new people along the way as well as fishing. She enjoyed crafts which she shared with everyone, cooking for her family and spending precious time with them. She was a member of the Paduanas at Agua Ramom and enjoyed spending time at the morada and the church during holy week. Survivors include daughter-in-law Ursulita Martinez, Alamosa, daughter Margie (Segundo) Diaz, Alamosa, Grandchildren, Christobol, of Alamosa, Manuelita (Roland), Denver, Mark (Christie) Munoz, Alicia Munoz, Denver, Miguel Angel (Autumn), Mario Andres, Martin Alfredo (Kylie), of Alamosa and Marcos Antonio (Sheena) of Grand Junction. 15 Great Grandchildren. Sisters Maria (Carlos) Gallegos, Carmen Gallegos, Inez (Rueben) Segura. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Phil, Sons Freddy, Luis, Daughters Margarita Martinez, Rita Munoz, grandson Filomeno, brothers Amos, Samuel, Eliejio, Waldo, Efren Torres, sisters Guadalupe Ortega, Marina Montoya, and Della Martinez. Vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, January 1, 2024 at 5:00 pm at Romero Funeral Home Chapel, Alamosa. A second rosary will be held on Tuesday, January 2 at Sacred Heart Church, Alamosa at 9:30 am with the Mass of Resurrection to follow at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Monte Vista Cemetery. Contributions can be made to San Juan Catholic Community for the restoration of the Holy Name of Mary Parish, Monte Vista Cemetery, or the Diocesan Foundation for the education of seminarians of the diocese.
