Arthur Joseph Lucero March 15, 1942 – August 14, 2026 Arthur Joseph Lucero, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, educator, counselor, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Trinidad, Colorado, on August 14, 2026. Born on March 15, 1942, in San Luis, Colorado, Arthur lived a long and meaningful life filled with family, education, hard work, adventure, and service to others. Arthur was born to Julian and Charlotte Lucero. Growing up in the beautiful San Luis Valley helped shape his lifelong appreciation for the outdoors, his strong work ethic, and the importance he placed on family and community. Throughout his life, Arthur carried with him the values he learned in his younger years and used them to build a life centered around helping others and providing for those he loved. Education was an important part of Arthur's life. He pursued his studies at Adams State College, where he earned a master’s degree in Vocational and Industrial Arts. His passion for education and helping others led him to continue his studies, and in 1991, he earned a master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitative Services from the University of Northern Colorado. His dedication to learning was reflected throughout his professional career and in the many lives he touched along the way. Arthur began his career as a Vocational and Industrial Arts teacher, where he had the opportunity to share his knowledge, skills, and experience with his students. He later continued his calling of helping others as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Colorado. In this role, Arthur dedicated himself to assisting individuals in overcoming challenges, recognizing their abilities, and working toward greater independence and meaningful employment. After many years of dedicated service, he retired in 2003, leaving behind a career that reflected his compassion, patience, and desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Beyond his education and professional accomplishments, Arthur will be remembered most for the life he shared with his wife, Elizabeth Lucero, and the family they cherished. His family was a great source of happiness and pride throughout his life. Whether sharing stories, enjoying time together, or simply being surrounded by those he loved, Arthur treasured the moments that brought his family together. Arthur also knew how to enjoy life. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping and found great happiness in spending time outdoors. These activities gave him the opportunity to enjoy nature, create memories, and appreciate the simple pleasures of life. He also enjoyed gambling and the excitement and fun that came along with it. Those who knew Arthur will remember the personality, stories, laughter, and memories that made time spent with him special. Arthur leaves behind a beautiful legacy through his family and through the many individuals whose lives he touched during his years as an educator and counselor. His knowledge, dedication, love, and guidance will continue to live on in those who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lucero; his daughters, Mellisa "Lisa" Lucero (Randy), Clarita "Clara" Lucero, and Hijinia Trujillo (Henry); his sons, David Lucero (Giselle), David Ortiz (Natasha), and Luis Adan Saenz (Erica); his 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his sister, Loretta Medina of Denver, Colorado; his brother, Leroy Lucero (Charlene) of Pueblo, Colorado; as well as numerous extended family members, friends, former colleagues, students, and others whose lives he touched throughout the years. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Charlotte Lucero; his sisters, Alline Garcia Fortenberry and Josephine Lobato; and his brothers, Adolph Lucero, John Lucero Jr., and Virgil Lucero. Although Arthur’s passing brings great sadness to those who loved him, his life is one to be remembered with gratitude and celebrated with joy. He was blessed with 84 years filled with accomplishments, family, meaningful work, and countless memories. From the students he taught to the individuals he helped throughout his career, and especially the family he loved so dearly, Arthur leaves behind a lasting impact that will not be forgotten. His family will forever cherish the memories of his laughter, his stories, the adventures shared while hunting, fishing, and camping, and the many ordinary moments that became treasured memories simply because he was there. While his physical presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of his family for generations to come. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with recitation of the Rosary at 9:30 a.m. and Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Parish, 511 Church Place, San Luis, CO. Arthur will be laid to rest at Sangre de Cristo Cemetery. The Reception will follow at the Senior Center, 1101 11th Street, in San Luis, CO.
