Anthony Ruiz Madrid

Anthony Ruiz Madrid was born on August 27, 1956 to Vincent and Theodora Madrid in Alamosa, CO. He passed away on October 29, 2022 at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa after a valiant battle with a fast and aggressive rare brain cancer. He fought the brave fight. He is survived by his mother, Theodora Madrid of Antonito, his sons, Anthony Vincent Madrid of Alamosa, John (Vanessa) Madrid and children, John David and Joy, his sister, Elizabeth (Kelvin)Yund of Colorado Springs, his nieces, Yelena Yund of Colorado Springs, Yael (Andrew) Repasky and children, Gabriel, Felicity, Samantha, and Luciana of Windsor, CO. He is also survived by his special aunts: Fedelina (John) Vigil of San Rafael, Lillian (Leo) Martinez of Manassa, Margie (James) Garcia of Las Mesitas, Cristina (Martin) Duran of Antonito, Rica Ruybal of Las Mesitas, and uncle, Chris (Carol) Ruybal of Las Mesitas, and many cousins and friends. Preceding him in death was his father, Vincent Madrid of Antonito, CO. Anthony attended Antonito Public Schools and graduated with honors in 1975. He attended Adams State College and graduated with his BA in History and Government and a minor in English in 1979. He received his MA degree in 1987. Anthony was an educator teaching at West High in Salt Lake City for seven (7) years and then taught school for the Alamosa Public School District from 1987- 2010 when he retired. He loved his career as an educator. He loved his community and participated in many civic and community activities. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Antonito. He was a historian and studied in the fields of English, Literature, History, Government and Religion. He loved to write and research. For six (6) years he coached Little League in Antonito and helped with the cleaning of the church/grounds, and provided physical activities for Vacation Bible School in the summers. He loved hunting, art, music, theater, movies, sports- especially the Rockies and the Broncos, and just enjoyed life and his friends. Most of all, he loved his family, his sons, his grand-children and his extended family. The Funeral for Anthony Ruiz Madrid and Service of Witness to the Ressurection will be held at the United Presbyterian Church of Antonito at 10 a.m. on November 7, 2022. Reverend Henry Hanna will be officiating, and Romero Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. As Reverend Hanna has stated, “Death is not the last word.”
