J Alfonso Valdez December 27, 1930 ~ August 27, 2026 Alfonso passed away peacefully on August 27,2026 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born and raised under the open skies of Las Hoyas in San Luis, Colorado. He learned the value of a hard day's work from the very beginning. Growing up on the farm alongside his parents, his brothers and his sister, he cultivated a deep love for the land and a bone-deep work ethic that defined his entire life. Together they shared the early mornings, the long harvests and the unbreakable bond of a family built on teamwork and grit. Keeping his beautiful memory alive are his children Alan (Rosann) Valdez, Teresa (Steve) Valdez; grandchildren Antoinette Romero, Jerek DeLuna, Alina DeLuna, Dario Martinez, Alexis (Lamont) Martinez, Brandon Valdez, Shane Valdez, James Sanchez, Nicole (Timothy) Nelson; great-grandchildren Delilah Romero, Alyanna Romero, Jericka Romero, Janessa Mondragon, Audrianna Mondragon, Ava Bryant, Ariana Bryant; his sister Julia Albert and a wonderful circle of extended family and lifelong friends who will forever celebrate the joy Alfonso brought into the world. Waiting to welcome him home with open arms are those who passed before him, his wife Mary Claussen, daughter Claudette Valdez, parents Dario (Margarita) Valdez, brothers Abel Valdez, Frank (Mary) Valdez, Tom (Cordy) Valdez, George (Collee) Valdez, Don Valdez, Bobby Valdez. Though he is dearly missed Alfonso’s vibrant spirit and love live on through his family he cherished the most. A Rosary will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Parish, with a Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow the Mass at San Pedro Cemetery, where Alfonso will be laid to rest. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, prayer, and celebration of the life of Jesus Alfonso Valdez.
